Make no man your HERO

We make a mistake by making celebrities heroes.
Place no person on a pedestal.

Recognize their accomplishments in their chosen activity.
Make note that they have achieved a high level of success (in their sport)

But note that we are all human and the flesh is weak. We all have skeletons in our closet.

Early in my life I looked for a hero. I made several people my heroes. I was always disappointed. Upon close examination, none lived up to my expectations. It was not them, it was me. I learned to control my expectations. I learned that no one could be my hero. I learned that if you look close enough you will see faults. I expected too much.

My mistake was this.
I passionately expect people upon becoming a PARENT to behave as they want their children to behave.
I want all parents to be living examples for their offspring. This seldom happens.

The recent deaths of several celebrities have resulted in much media coverage, both positive and negative.
I have seen people crying, people disappointed, and people buying memorabilia.

Don’t honor people. Honor specific behavior.
For example, don’t honor Steve McNair the person.
Honor Steve McNair’s accomplishments on the football field.

Don’t honor Michael Jackson the person.
Honor his accomplishments in field of POP MUSIC

PUT NO MAN ON A PEDESTAL.
NO ONE SHOULD BE YOUR HERO.

BUT….and the resulting action step is
YOU CAN BE A HERO.
